Fruits are a special type of carb. Unlike fibrous and starchy carbs, fruits have a special sugar in them called fructose which is an interesting fella. Unlike the sugar molecule glucose found in starchy carbs, fructose is digested differently and that’s why people who eat a lot of fruit have trouble losing weight.
The problem isn’t the fructose itself, but the fact that fructose is everywhere and often you don’t even realize when you’re eating it. The Paleo diet suggests strategically choosing nutrient dense fruits and just like veggies, it’s important to eat a variety.
A few of my favorite fruits are Pineapple, Berries, Apples, Kiwi, Grapefruit – the important thing here is to get a variety of fruits, ensuring you get a mix of micro nutrients!
